Safety Day and normal Friday

May 11, 2012

After have a couple of days that were not typical we are back to normal today. Yesterday we had safety day with the FFA and learned about how to be safe around animals, bikes, in the water, with electricity and around tractors. The students also listened to a presentation from the Fire Department. It was a great afternoon spent outside learning about these things.

Today we finished our story “Storm in the Night” by doing a story map and taking a quiz. We  worked on writing story problems in Math and watched Mrs. Frizzle and her class learn about weather safety.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

Author Katie McKy

May 9, 2012

Today was an exciting day as author Katie McKy visited us today and told us about her stories Wolf Camp and PumpkinTown! We also had breakout sessions with her where she had the students writing stories in such an amazing fashion! I could believe how hard my students worked even if they were being bombarded with wind from leaf blowers and water from spray bottles. She did a wonderful job getting the kids focused and refocused to work on their writing and was entertaining as well.

Here are some pictures from today!

Animoto Collaborative Project

May 8, 2012

Here are the finished projects we created with a Third Grade Class from Black River Falls.  We first used Edmodo and set up a group where the students could share things about themselves and then we divided into groups based on our heritage to create our videos using animoto.

4 weeks left…

May 7, 2012

With only 4 weeks left of school,  I am feeling that we have a lot to accomplish in very little time! I am hoping that with the students cooperation we can manage to get through all the things we need to finish up this year.

Today we worked on comparing adjectives and reviewed the articles (a, an, the).  We practiced our 6s, 7s, and 8s in math and learned about the different types of precipitation in Science. We also started reading the book Twister on Tuesday to go along with our Weather Unit.

Friday!

May 4, 2012

Today some of the students worked on their retests of the MAP tests. We also worked on our iMovie for our Weather Unit and the students learned how to add audio to the individual clips. I have seen some really nice projects so far, but have challenged those students who are done to find more facts to add to their videos.

We learned about the articles a, an and the and how to use them appropriately in sentences in reading today too.

In math we talked about square numbers and how to make a square number.

MAP testing

May 3, 2012

We finished our other two MAP tests today and the students did very well,  many of them saw an improvement in their scores compared to the winter. We learned our 7s in Math today so the students have learned all facts 0-10 on the multiplication table.

The students also have been doing an excellent job on their weather reports each morning, I have enjoyed listening to them.

Extreme Weather

May 1, 2012  Tagged

The students have been learning a lot from their research on their extreme weather. From Hurricanes to tornadoes to heat waves and sandstorms there have been a lot facts flying around the room. Today most of the students started creating their iMovie and many should be done this week so that we can post them on here.

We took our sprint on the 6s today and many passed, their practicing at home has really paid off! In math we worked with word problems, trying to identify what kind of problem it is and the writing our own problem that was similar.

In Science we talked about some weather vocabulary from condensation to evaporation and learned how clouds form.

Tomorrow we will begin MAP testing again taking one of the three tests.

Weather Project

April 30, 2012

With our project on our Heritage done, we are ready to start the next project on Weather. Each student has chosen a type of extreme weather to research and will be creating an iMovie to explain how that type of weather occurs and how to stay safe in the event of that weather happening. I will work to get our heritage projects posted on here soon.

We also learned about Science Night today through some demonstrations and presentations from the High School students. Science night is on Wednesday and area student are encouraged to attend to have some fun with science activities.

We are working our our 6s and 8s for multiplication facts this week. We will be taking sprint on our 6s tomorrow, so students should be studying for that tonight.

6s Multiplication Facts

April 25, 2012

Today we introduced the 6s multiplication facts. We learned strategies to help figure out more difficult facts and talked about how we really only have to learn 9 more fact in order to have all the facts 1-10 learned.

We talked more about Weather in Science by watching a video that introduced us to the tools used to record and measure weather data.

Tonight Sam and Abby are our meteorologist and will be reporting the weather tomorrow morning during the announcements.
